I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.
Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.
The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

Tray Tables Up. Prepare for landing. Time to Stretch.
After more than 30 years working airline aisles, Angela Lewis has traded the beverage cart for a ballet barre. The former flight attendant has opened Neighborhood Barre at 230 Market View Drive in Kernersville, the Kernersville News reports. The studio held a soft opening on Sept. 14 and celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Oct. 16.
Lewis told the paper her dream of owning a business goes back to her grandfather, Harold C. Eanes, an inventor who founded and ran a textile manufacturing company in Stoneville. She started flying in 1991 for a Delta commuter airline and later moved to Delta itself. She stepped away after her daughter Evelyn was born a week before 9/11, then came back for another 10 years in the air.
A lifelong love of dance, yoga and Pilates eventually pointed her toward barre, a low-impact, full-body workout that blends ballet-inspired moves with Pilates, yoga and strength training. She chose to open under Neighborhood Barre, a brand Katy Richardson founded in Tennessee in 2011. Lewis says the classes build core strength, balance and everyday mobility, with a focus on "progress and not perfection."
It's a family affair. Evelyn is one of the studio's barre instructors, and Lewis credits her husband for his support and for handling the construction.
The studio has four barre instructors and one yoga instructor, with yoga every Tuesday at 6 p.m., and classes can hold 20 or more people. Lewis hopes to give back with community events, special classes for groups like the Wounded Warriors and fitness programs with local schools. Early Voting Boom Keeps Kernersville Sites Busy
Forsyth County voters are showing up early in a big way. Through Thursday, 45,691 ballots had been cast during early voting, up from 30,830 at the same point in 2022, the Winston-Salem Journal reports. Each of the first six days topped the busiest day of the 2022 midterm, starting with 8,264 ballots on opening day.
Kernersville-area sites are doing their part. Paddison Memorial Branch Library has logged 4,273 ballots, the Kernersville Recreation and Event Center has 3,315 and the Walkertown Branch Library has 2,090. The rec center and Walkertown library are both new early voting sites this year. Elections Director Tim Tsujii credits the added sites and strong interest in races for U.S. Senate, school board, county commissioners, district attorney and sheriff.
Early voting runs through Saturday, Oct. 31, ending at 3 p.m. that day, and every site offers same-day registration. Check the county's early voting page for daily hours. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Produce distributor Foster Caviness to close, cutting 169 Winston-Salem jobs
Foster Caviness, a family-owned produce distributor that traces its roots to a Guilford County street-corner stand in 1902, plans to close, the Winston-Salem Journal reports. The closing affects 181 workers, including 169 at its facility on Lowery Street in Winston-Salem.
According to the company's state WARN notice, Foster learned on Oct. 14 that its biggest customer was ending its contract, effective Nov. 11. The first 36 job cuts begin Sunday, 121 more follow on Nov. 8, and the last employees are expected to leave by March 5.
The news comes just a year and a half after the Lowery Street site opened in March 2025 with help from city and county job-creation incentives. Greater Winston-Salem Inc. says local workforce programs are ready to help affected employees find their next job.
