Handmade Crafters Wanted: Apply Now for Kernersville's 50th Honeybee Festival

Kernersville's 50th Annual Honeybee Festival is now accepting vendor applications for its August 15 event at Fourth of July Park. The anniversary celebration will feature over 100 handmade craft vendors, with a March 6 deadline for several categories that have already reached capacity. Accepted vendors will pay after confirmation, and applicants can expect to hear back regardless of the decision.

Step Back in Time and Play in the Present: A Day in Kernersville

Kernersville offers a mix of historical attractions, outdoor spaces, and sports facilities that draw visitors year-round. From the restored Körner's Folly and the Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden to the Carolina Field of Honor and multiple sports complexes, there is something for everyone. Dining and downtown events round out the experience, encouraging locals and tourists alike to explore the town.

New Kernersville zoning opens doors for pet day care, recreation space

The Kernersville Board of Aldermen gave unanimous approval to two rezoning requests during their Tuesday night meeting at town hall. Board members Chris Thompson and Bill Apple were absent from the vote.

One rezoning covers 13.93 acres near the intersection of Old Winston Road and Greenfield Meadow Way.

That parcel, which once housed a Lowes Foods grocery store, shifts from General Business-Special and Residential Single Family to General Business-Conditional zoning. The change allows for an indoor recreation center to open there.

Another rezoning applies to 1.42 acres at 1470 Hampton Plaza Drive.

That property moves from Limited Industrial-Special Use to Limited Industrial-Conditional zoning. It will now permit veterinary services and a pet day care facility.

In other business, the board approved a $208,969 contract with Traffic Control Devices LLC. The money will pay for installing an emergency signal at Kernersville Fire Station 42.

The state already committed $200,000 for the project during a December 2025 Board of Transportation meeting. Station 42 sits on the busy NC 66 South corridor, and aldermen cited safety concerns as the reason for the signal.

Aldermen also adopted the town's Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2026-27 through 2030-31. Projects listed for the first year will be part of the upcoming town budget.

Future-year projects may or may not make it into later budgets, but they must appear in the CIP for the town to apply for federal or state grants.
