The Brewer's Kettle in downtown Kernersville is trading craft beer flights for turkey legs and tournament jousts this weekend, as the taproom and its in-house coffee shop, Pot Heads On The Go, host the town's first Renaissance Festival.

The event runs Saturday, Sept. 26, starting at 1 p.m. at 308 E. Mountain St. Organizers are planning a full day of Renaissance-era entertainment and are billing it as family friendly, with pets welcome on a leash. Guests 21 and older can buy beer, wine and other drinks on site, though outside alcohol is not allowed.

More than 13,000 people had marked themselves interested in the event on Facebook by this week, with hundreds more already confirmed to attend. It is the first time The Brewer's Kettle has hosted a festival of this scale, adding a new fall tradition to a Kernersville events calendar that already includes Oktoberfest at Körner's Folly and Piney Grove Elementary's Fall Festival, both happening the same weekend.

The Paddison Memorial Branch Library in Kernersville is temporarily closing its children's department while crews replace the building's HVAC system.

Forsyth County Public Library says the work will run from Sept. 21 through Oct. 5. During that stretch, all public meeting rooms will be closed and in-building programs will be cancelled. The library says the children's department will stay closed until further notice, even after the broader window ends.

Multiple fire departments responded to an overnight fire at Textech Coatings on Drummond Street in Kernersville, according to the Town of Kernersville.

Kernersville Fire Rescue was called to the commercial building around 11 p.m. after crews spotted flames coming from the building's rooftop ventilation system. A second alarm brought in help from Winston-Salem, Piney Grove, Beeson's Crossroads, High Point, Walkertown and Stokesdale fire departments, some of which covered Kernersville's stations while local crews worked the scene.

Firefighters got the fire under control after several minutes of coordinated effort. The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause.
