JPB Counseling brings joy, purpose and balance to the heart of the Triad
Walk into JPB Counseling off NC 66 and you won't find a stuffy waiting room. Owner Jessica Beckman and her team have built a warm, welcoming space where people of all ages, from 7 to 65 and older, can work through whatever they're facing.
JPB stands for joy, purpose and balance, and that's the framework behind every session. "We don't see them as a diagnosis, but as an individual, as a person who's just trying to develop their story," Jessica says.
Jessica started the practice on her own in Greensboro in 2022. Last fall she moved it home to Kernersville to be "the heart of the Triad," and the team has since grown to five licensed clinicians who see individuals, couples and families.
The practice is now adding groups, too. Therapist Josh May, LCSW, is leading a Teen Social Skills Group (ages 12 to 17) with two Saturday sessions left on Oct. 24 and Oct. 31, followed by an Internet Safety Workshop on Nov. 7 and Nov. 14.

Isaias moves out with only minor damage, and sunshine returns for the work week
The remnants of Isaias soaked the Piedmont Triad over the weekend, but the region came through with only minor damage, according to FOX8. By Sunday afternoon the worst of the storm had moved out.
Three tornado warnings were issued Sunday morning in Montgomery and Randolph counties, but no serious damage or injuries were reported. Crews cleared downed trees from several roads in Randolph County, and trees also came down in parts of Winston-Salem. Duke Energy reported scattered power outages across the Triad, with the largest cluster, more than 650 customers, around Winston-Salem. Hundreds more were out around Greensboro and about 1,000 in Reidsville as crews worked to restore service.
If your power is still out Monday morning, you can report it and check restoration times on Duke Energy's outage map. The forecast is the good news: Monday turns sunny with a high near 77, and Tuesday climbs to about 81.

Novant Health adds a foot and ankle specialist at its Kernersville clinic
Novant Health is expanding foot and ankle care in the Triad with the addition of Dr. Christina Long, a board-certified podiatrist with 15 years of experience. Long recently joined Novant Health Mothershed Foot & Ankle and will see patients in Kernersville, Clemmons and Winston-Salem.
Long treats a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, bunions, fractures, nerve problems and sprains. "My goal with each patient is to develop a personalized treatment plan that may include nonoperative solutions such as changes in footwear, orthotics, physical therapy or, when appropriate, surgery," she told the Kernersville News. Before joining Novant, she worked in private practice in Maine and taught orthopedic surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
The Kernersville clinic is at 445 Pineview Dr., Suite 230, and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling (336) 765-0710.

Your Monday in Kernersville: sunshine, a Planning Board rezoning and early voting on deck
After a soggy weekend, the week starts bright. Here's what's happening today and what's coming up.
Sunshine is back. Expect a sunny Monday with a high near 77, a cool, clear night around 55 and an even warmer Tuesday near 81.
Planning Board tonight. The Planning Board meets at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall. On the agenda is a public hearing on a 1.9-acre property at 1425 Hampton Plaza Dr., where the owners want to add a long list of allowed uses, including a child day care center, a hotel, medical offices, indoor recreation and auto repair. Town staff say there is no specific tenant lined up yet. The board will also review a change to how the town gives notice of neighborhood meetings.
At the library. Paddison Memorial Branch Library hosts STEAM for Teens at 4 p.m. and the Horrifyingly Thrilled Book Club at 6 p.m., just in time for spooky season.
Cheer on a neighbor. Battle rounds on NBC's The Voice begin this week, so keep an eye out for Kernersville's own Luke Cope on Team Queen Latifah.
Coming up. Kernersville Newcomers and Neighbors meets Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the VFW, and early voting opens Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Paddison Memorial Branch Library.
