East Forsyth names its 2027 Athletic Hall of Fame class
Five former Eagles standouts and one longtime coach are headed into the East Forsyth High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the Kernersville News reports. Larry Curry III, Karen Dull, Ashley Woods Lawson, Ahmani Marshall, Stuart Veach and Renee Williams make up the class of 2027.
They will be honored on Jan. 23 in the Jack L. Musten Gymnasium on the East Forsyth campus, with dinner at 6 p.m. and the induction ceremony at 7 p.m. The Hall of Fame started in 2012 with 10 inductees, and this class brings its membership to 111.
Larry Curry III (Class of 2014). A three-time all-conference basketball player, Curry was Conference Player of the Year as a senior, averaging 21.5 points a game. He once scored 70 points in less than 24 hours, with 36 against Northwest Guilford and 34 against Glenn in back-to-back road games, and he finished with more than 1,000 career points. Today he is the Eagles' new varsity boys' basketball head coach.
Karen Dull (coach, 1984 to 2011). Dull taught and coached at East Forsyth for 27 years. Her softball teams went 375-256 and won seven conference titles, and she was named Conference Coach of the Year six times. She led the program's switch from slow pitch to fast pitch in 1996 and coached volleyball for 26 seasons. The school's softball field has carried her name since 2023.
Ashley Woods Lawson (Class of 1987). A three-sport star in volleyball, basketball and softball, Lawson led the Lady Eagles basketball team to a 22-2 record and was Conference Player of the Year as a senior. She was also a three-time all-conference softball player.
Ahmani Marshall (Class of 2020). Marshall was Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2018 and rushed for 2,204 yards and 28 touchdowns in the first five games of his senior season before breaking his collarbone. He played on East Forsyth's back-to-back state championship teams in 2018 and 2019 and was a Shrine Bowl selection.
Stuart Veach (Class of 1963). Veach played defensive tackle on the school's very first football team, which won its first nine games. He also scored the first touchdown in East Forsyth history by blocking a punt and running it in.
Renee Williams (Class of 1985). Williams averaged 32 points and 25 rebounds a game as a senior, earning the Mary Garber Award as the best girls' basketball player in Northwest North Carolina and a spot on the all-state first team. She was also named MVP of the East/West All-Star game.

Adventure Landing on Stratford Road is closed, and the property has been sold
Generations of Triad families have played mini golf, steered bumper boats and filled the arcade at Adventure Landing in Winston-Salem. Now a sign on the door reads "Temporarily closed," and the property has a new owner, the Winston-Salem Journal reports.
Schuckenbrock Holdings of Hilton Head, S.C., paid $2.45 million for the 1.84-acre site at 1600 S. Stratford Road, and its plans for the property were not immediately known. It isn't clear exactly when the attraction closed; its Facebook page had advertised afterschool activities starting Sept. 24.
Putt-Putt and then Adventure Landing have operated at that spot since 1970, five years before Hanes Mall opened across the street. The chain has closed several locations over the past year, including one in Raleigh in August.

Need a will or power of attorney? Sign up for a FREE clinic
Forsyth County residents who need a will, a living will, or a health care or financial power of attorney can get help at no cost this month, The Chronicle reports. Legal Aid of North Carolina, Senior Services and the Wake Forest University School of Law are holding a clinic with signing appointments on Friday, Nov. 20, at the Generations Center, 114 W. 30th St. in Winston-Salem.
This is not a walk-in event. Volunteers prepare the documents ahead of time, so you need to register by Friday, Nov. 13. The clinic is for residents who meet Legal Aid's income guidelines, with priority for homeowners and people 60 and older, and applying does not guarantee an appointment. To sign up, call Legal Aid at 919-861-2095 or email [email protected]. Legal Aid's services are free, so no one should ask you for payment information.

Beautiful weather for it. Expect mostly sunny skies and a high near 74. Tonight stays mild, around 51, and Wednesday turns cloudier but warm, near 76.
