Three people attacked by rabid fox near popular Kernersville trail

A fox that attacked three people near the Kerner Mill Greenway in Kernersville has tested positive for rabies. The Forsyth County Department of Public Health confirmed the test results on May 14.
Health officials are asking anyone who was in that area and had physical contact with a fox between May 7 and May 14 to call their doctor right away. They should also contact the Forsyth County Department of Public Health at 336-830-1069 during business hours, which run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For after-hours concerns, people can call 336-409-0357.
If a pet might have touched or been near a fox, owners should get in touch with their veterinarian and Forsyth County Animal Services. That number is 336-727-2112.
Rabies is a serious viral disease that can be fatal if not treated quickly. Officials stress that anyone who thinks they may have been exposed should seek medical attention immediately.1
Find Your Rhythm and Make New Friends at Chicago Style Stepping

Chicago Style Stepping is making its way to local dance floors, and residents are invited to join the fun. This dance style combines smooth footwork, upbeat music, and a sense of connection that keeps people coming back for more.
The class welcomes everyone, from complete beginners to experienced dancers who want to pick up new moves. It's not just about learning steps, though.
The real draw is the chance to meet neighbors, make friends, and become part of a lively community. Spaces are limited, so organizers expect spots to fill up quickly.

For parents who can't drive, Forsyth County bus delays bring daily stress and worry

As the school year winds down in Forsyth County, a persistent shortage of bus drivers is causing daily delays that are rattling families. Parents like Lanie Bemis, who relies on school buses because of a chronic health condition, and Ashlea Canning-Morton, whose child has special needs, say the unpredictable schedules are creating stress and disrupting routines. The district has combined routes and waived tardy penalties, but for families without other transportation options, the uncertainty remains a daily struggle.2
After a year of distrust, a school superintendent wins over commissioners with a detailed budget plea

A year after a budget crisis shook public trust, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is asking county commissioners for an additional $33.5 million. Superintendent Don Phipps presented a detailed, line-by-line budget request that earned praise from commissioners, though some still hear lingering frustration from residents. The district's total request is about $213 million, and county leaders are weighing their options.3
